Parental presence on club premises is required at all times while your children on the water.
Some Junior and Youth sailors own their own boats; however, the Junior section also has its own fleet of Optimist, Topper, RS Tera and Mirror dinghies that are used at our Saturday Club and at training and competitive events.
The Junior and Youth group incorporates the Chipstead Optimist Class.
The Optimist Dinghy provides the first step into racing for most young sailors and is the first step on the RYA Junior Pathway
Whilst we provide training through our Saturday Club these are not RYA Courses; however, the Club has a RYA Training Centre which runs RYA courses.
There are discounts for members and we encourage Junior members to progress through the RYA ladder of training
The Club’s designation as a RYA Training Centre means that we are inspected to ensure that the Club maintains high standards of tuition, equipment and safety. On formal training courses, juniors are taught by qualified RYA Dinghy Instructors to the standards required by the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme.
Any sailing dingy with a Minimum PY rating of 1020, and a max overall length of 15 ft can be sailed at Chipstead. Trapezes can-not be used.
There is a list of dinghy classes on the CSC website, however this is not exhaustive as other types can be part of the Junior fleet or the Fast / Slow handicap fleets.
The group is volunteer led by members, mostly parents of Junior members. Some have a lifelong love of the sport; others are new to sailing, assisting as non-sailing parents.
There is a Junior and Youth Committee which co-ordinates the section. This includes two Junior and Youth helm representatives.
Apart from briefings and chat at Saturday Club sessions we have an email group set up (known as the goggle group) so that messages can be sent to all Junior and Youth sailors, their parents, helpers, and those just starting at Saturday Club.
Normally a message is sent during the week to advise of sailing conditions for the Saturday Club and for announcements.
We have an e-mail address email@example.com which is managed by committee members.
Also for big events, information will be posted on the CSC website www.chipsteadsc.org.uk
Visit our website to find out more: www.chipsteadsc.org.uk
Better still, why not just come down and join us one Saturday after the season starts and the Day Leader or one of the other helpers will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Yes, there is space for your boat - or boats - at Chipstead all year round. Spaces are allotted by class captains.
Boats should be securely lashed down to avoid damage to neighbouring craft, Boats and equipment are left at the Club strictly at the owners' risk.
