Chipstead Sailing Club

Summer and Winter Season Race Programme

The varied programme planned and refined by your Sailing Committee aims to offer a range of sailing and racing opportunities to suit every member, whether social sailor, novice racer, improver or national champion.

The following notes are for guidance. Race timings are indicative for the leading boat and at the discretion of the Race Officer of the Day (“OOD”).

Summer Season Weekend Racing

Novices’ Cup Handicap Series

A race of approximately 35 minutes

For novice helms who have not raced previously or do not regularly finish in the top half of a points series. Previous prize winning helms of this event or other club events may not participate, with the exception of prize winning Optimist helms who are permitted to sail as novice helms in another class of boat.

Class Points Fleet Race Series

Open to members who own a boat registered with the relevant Class or their nominated helm, where the helm is a club member. The series may be split into a number of sub series by a Class with the agreement of the Sailing Committee.

Two handed boats may be sailed single handed as agreed by each Class AGM.

The Laser Class has two back to back races of between 35 and 45 minutes for the leader with each race part of a separate series. All other Class races are between 60 and 75 minutes.

Club Handicap Races

Handicap races are run on Saturday afternoons, Sunday mornings and Sunday afternoons throughout the Summer Season other than when Class Open Meetings are being held.

Open to all members not having a Points series running at the same time. In the event that a class without a quorum wishes to sail in the Handicap Race, then this will be permitted provided the OOD is so advised and all helms sign on in the Handicap Race. Two handed boats may be sailed single handed. All Classes will start at the same time unless otherwise stated and individual corrected times calculated in accordance with local yardsticks.

Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon races are between 60 and 75 minutes. Sunday morning handicap racing comprises two back to back races of between 35 and 45 minutes for the leader, with each race part of a separate series.
