(A) Series Tops & Tails
Saturday 1 July concluded the (A) Series. This season being the first time discards have been introduced to help normalise overall positions; the impact has been positive with team performance, along with attendance, helping the top pairs achieve their overall standings. Peter Gillow and Keith Turtle romped home in first place with an impressive score line of 81-points driven by a strong showing in the early part of the series. Second were Mick Healy and Andrew Storey being just one point clear of Rob Trend and David Bleakley in third. Fourth were Martyn Lyons and Rudi Buckle having equal points with Dave Rudman and Graham Grimwood who lost out on discard. Overall positions were tight with only 14-points separating the top 5-positions.
A long north east to south west course was set.
The wind was generally from the south west at about 8-12 miles with some stronger gusts but also some lulls. There were eight starters. However Trevor Cooke and Dave Andrew’s both dropped out due to electrical issues after about four races. The racing was generally close.
